The first thing Genesis says about human beings is not what we have done or failed to do. It is what we are — image-bearers of God. Before the fall, before the failure, before the long story of wandering and return, there is this: you were made to reflect something of God into the world. That is not a role you earn. It is what you are.
Read it slowly. Then read it again. Notice which word or phrase stays with you.
